A Journey Through Time and Self

What is Yoga?

Yoga is far more than just a form of exercise—it’s a timeless path to harmony, health, and higher consciousness. Derived from the Sanskrit root “Yuj”, meaning to unite, yoga is the sacred union of body, mind, and spirit. It is the art of living in awareness—of your breath, your thoughts, your actions, and your inner truth.

Its origins trace back over 5,000 years, rooted in the ancient Indus-Sarasvati civilization. From the Vedas to the Bhagavad Gita and the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, yoga evolved as both a science and a philosophy. Patanjali defined it as “the practice of quieting the mind,” but in practice, it is also a way to live with intention and grace.

Yoga respects the body as the only true home you’ll inhabit in this lifetime. Through physical postures (asanas), breath control (pranayama), meditation (dhyana), and ethical principles (yamas and niyamas), yoga nurtures strength, stillness, and inner balance.

From Hatha to Vinyasa, and Ashtanga to Kundalini, yoga continues to adapt while staying rooted in ancient wisdom. Its modern revival owes much to luminaries like Swami Vivekananda, B.K.S. Iyengar, and Pattabhi Jois, whose teachings have spread yoga across the globe—helping millions reconnect with themselves and the world around them.

Difference Between

Modern and Ancient Yoga

Explore the evolution of yoga through time. Ancient yoga, rooted in spiritual practices, emphasized self-realization and inner peace, while modern yoga focuses more on physical well-being and fitness. Both forms hold unique benefits, offering a blend of tradition and contemporary practices.

Ancient yoga

Practiced by sages like Patanjali, was deeply spiritual, focusing on the connection between the body, mind, and soul. It was about meditation, breath control, and living ethically. The practice was primarily about self-realization and spiritual growth.

Modern Yoga

Popularized in the West, often emphasizes physical fitness. It is more focused on asanas (physical postures), with meditation and breathwork being secondary components in many classes. While both forms of yoga offer immense benefits, modern yoga often highlights the physical aspects, while ancient yoga integrates spiritual and mental practices.

Why Should Yoga Be Your Daily Routine?

In a world that moves quickly, yoga offers a way to pause, reconnect, and find balance. Incorporating yoga into your daily life offers multiple benefits:

Physical Health and Flexibility

Yoga tones muscles, increases flexibility, boosts cardiovascular health, and enhances respiratory function.

Mental Clarity and Focus

Daily practice sharpens the mind, reduces stress, and promotes emotional stability.

Emotional Well-Being

Yoga nurtures your emotional health, helping you cultivate positivity, self-awareness, and inner peace.

Holistic Wellness

Yoga encourages healthy habits, balances your energy, and contributes to longevity.

Community and Connection

Practicing yoga fosters a sense of community, providing support, inspiration, and shared experiences.

Accessible to All

Yoga is adaptable for people of all ages and fitness levels, making it inclusive and transformative.

Varsha’s journey into yoga was born out of the intense stress of a corporate career. In her search for peace, she discovered yoga’s healing power. Initially, yoga was a tool for stress relief, but soon it became a life-changing practice. The decision to transition from a successful corporate career to yoga teaching was one of self-discovery and fulfillment.
Through years of training in the Himalayas and practicing traditional yoga styles, Varsha founded Yog Varsha, a space for people to experience the holistic approach to yoga, blending the wisdom of ancient practices with modern life’s demands.

Varsha’s Personal Journey into Yoga

Varsha’s personal transformation began 15 years ago, in the heart of the stress-heavy corporate world. A chance recommendation led her to a yoga class in Rishikesh, where she found immediate relief from the pressures of daily life. What started as a form of stress relief evolved into a profound journey of self-discovery. After completing a rigorous teacher training program in Rishikesh, Varsha became deeply passionate about sharing the spiritual, emotional, and physical benefits of yoga with others.
Her training followed the Gurukul Parampara, a tradition of immersive learning that blends academic study, physical practices, and spiritual development. Varsha’s yoga education in Rishikesh, at the spiritual heart of India, integrated sacred texts, philosophy, and physical practice in a holistic, transformative way.

Why Rishikesh?

Rishikesh, known as the “Yoga Capital of the World,” is the perfect setting for yoga education. This sacred town is surrounded by the tranquil Himalayas and the holy Ganges River, providing a serene backdrop for deep spiritual growth. It is here that Varsha connected with her inner self and decided to dedicate her life to yoga, drawing inspiration from Rishikesh’s rich spiritual heritage.
